About the Department
The Department of Periodontics provides instruction and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium. The department is equipped with 43 fully loaded dental chairs and also holds all the modern and ultra modern equipments like LASER, electrosurgical unit, implant kit etc. The department has separate working clinics for Postgraduate and Undergraduate students. A central sterilization room looks after the overall sterilization and disinfection of instruments.

The goal of the Department is to provide the undergraduate and postgraduate student with a strong educational foundation in periodontology for their future careers in Dentistry and to contribute new knowledge through basic and clinical research in Periodontics.

About the head of Department
The Dept. of Periodontology is headed by Dr.Paramjit kaur Khinda. Dr. Khinda graduated from KLES Dental College & Hospital, Belgaum in the year 1994 and completed her post-graduation in Periodontology from Punjab Government Dental College and Hospital, Amritsar in the year 1999. Implantology has been a research favorite & remains her focus. The modality of N2O/O2 inhalation conscious sedation analgesia has been of interest to her in the last few years. She has over 12 yrs of teaching experience in Periodontics and has had in the past successful teaching stints at couple of other prominent dental colleges in the region. Clinical Periodontology including the surgical management remains a passion with her and has been the focus of her instruction over the past many years.

    The Post Graduate programme is of three years duration starts with the training in the pre clinical work and non-surgical periodontal therapy. This is followed by treatment of patients with surgical periodontal therapy with a special emphasis on various regenerative techniques. Regular seminars and journal club reviews are a part of the postgraduate training programme. The students are encouraged to attend national and international conferences and present scientific papers and posters. The post graduate students are also required to submit a library and main dissertation as a partial fulfillment of the M.D.S requirements.
